Luxury Italian Restaurants in London for Every Taste

Published on August 25, 2021 by Rebecca Hinshelwood

London is not short of Italian Restaurants. From chains to quick bites to Michelin starred establishments, the whole spectrum of Italian dining is available across the city. It’s a favourite culinary genre for families, couples, businesses and groups alike. Perhaps this is because the face of Italian cuisine is so broad and many faceted. By this we mean it’s both accessible and intricate, social and nostalgic with an eternal warmth and sunshine inspired by the food. So, depending on which side to luxury Italian restaurants you favour, we look at a few favourites.

Established Institution

Franco’s, Jermyn St

Established in 1945, Franco’s is one of London’s oldest luxury Italian restaurants. This standing, and it’s consistent delivery of great food and attentive service, makes Franco’s an institution. Great for long social dinners, pre-theatre bites and business lunches, the reliable and traditional approach of this restaurant keeps it a favourite of so many.

Classic Class

Locanda Locatelli, Mayfair

This Michelin starred destination sits in the Churchill Hotel on Seymour Street, its street level access just a short walk from Hyde park. Classic dishes are given a modern edge whilst retaining their authenticity. Spectacular pasta dishes are stars of the show, alongside the stunning refurbished decor, which is muted and elegant. Walls and ceiling are fabric lined in order to dampen ambient noise, allowing dinner conversation to flow unencumbered.

Seasonal Menus

Mercante at Sheraton Grand, Mayfair

At Mercante, the menu takes inspiration from the busy food markets of Rome and Naples. This leads it to change seasonally, with a focus on regional specialities and ingredients. The scope is wide, with menus from snacks to brunch to dinner. Flexibility is the order of the day here. With the large dining room, it’s a bustling and relaxed social atmosphere. Add to this the gin terrace, in partnership with Malfy Gin, and you’ll find a real buzz of Italian chic here.

Vintage Italy

Il Pampero, Belgravia

Situated inside the Hari Hotel, il Pampero offers a seasonal menu ensconced in surroundings that ooze Italian chic. Head Chef Matteo D’Elia brings with him the authenticity of hailing from Rome, but with a few international twists that elevate your visit here. This establishment isn’t just for dinner, though. With a glamorous central bar and inventive cocktail menu, il Pampero is a stylish destination for drinks and dinner alike.

Stylish Surrounds

Ave Mario, Covent Garden

The most recent addition to the Big Mamma Group, joining Gloria and Circolo Popolare, this Covent Garden destination is just as dramatic and intragrammable. The bright and bold interior is the perfect backdrop for a social evening. The cocktail menu is refreshed every month and the food promises not to disappoint, serving up classics with an edge like giant carbonara ravioli. Lastly, the payment platform app makes settling the bill easy peasy – perfect for group socials.

Intimate and Exclusive

Chucs, Mayfair

You can visit outposts of the original Chucs in Belgravia, St John’s Wood and Westbourne Grove. Or one of their cafes in Kensington and Chelsea. But the original boutique 18 cover restaurant sits just off Berkley Square. Terrace seating makes the most of London’s summertime – even when the weather is decidedly less Italian! The menu concentrates on delivering classic pasta, pizza and seafood to an exemplary standard. Inside, the theme of Chucs’ origins at the neighbouring yacht-wear boutique is clear with a luxury seafaring feel.

Whether you’re travelling to London on business, with family or as a city break, choosing a luxury Italian restaurant is the ideal complement to your trip. London is home to some of the best international cuisine in the world, since it’s attractive to the best and most innovative chefs. While you’re staying at your luxury serviced apartment, these luxury Italian restaurants are just on your doorstep. So whether it’s a business brunch or al fresco dinner, there’s the ideal table for you in London.
